BANGOR CITY (Farrar Road)

A chance to re-visit one of my favourite Welsh grounds, Farrar Road, for possibly the last time, as this game was switched to a Sunday afternoon because of the international game (Wales lost 2-1 in Finland the previous day). This ground is supposedly on the way out as Bangor seek to move to a UEFA complient ground that is to be built near the Menai Straits.

Aberystwyth won the game by virtue of a Luke Bowen goal after 37 minutes, finishing coolly after his initial shot was saved. This was surprisingly the only goal of a very open attacking first half, with both teams squandering numerous chances. Aber probably had the more clear cut chances but Bangor 'keeper Paul Smith was in superb form.

The second half was a somewhat different story as Aber came out with the intent on defending their one goal lead, thus packing their defence and playing with a lone striker. The game was played almost entirely in the Aber half but Bangor couldn't break them down and, in all honesty, never really troubled Stephen Cann in the Aber goal. The locals were not best pleased at the end of the game, the result leaving Bangor languishing in the lower half of the table.

As I was on the train today, it would have been incredibly rude if I never paid a visit to the GBG recommended Black Bull in town and sank a few pints of the old Welsh Pride before heading home!!
