Champions League
Inter Milan 2-2 Dynamo Kiev
Attendance: 34,721
A flight out of Bristol in the morning and it was next stop on the tour. A visit to Milan and the iconic Stadio Guiseppe Meazza, or San Siro as it is universally known. Due to the farcical situation regarding tickets, which I booked online to save time, I ended up missing the kick off and the first goal. The queues at the ticket office were ridiculous, and naturally there was only one person dealing with handing out the online tickets, whilst three other members of staff sat there twiddling their thumbs. If I'd have turned up on the night (as only 34,000 did) and paid there and then, there wouldn't have been any problems!
Anyhow, Taras Mikhalik gave Kiev a 5th minute lead and the Ukranians were the better side against an out of sorts Inter team. Out of the blue on 34 minutes a long punt upfield was latched onto by Dejan Stankovic and when the Kiev 'keeper rushed out, he coolly slotted past him. Kiev restored their lead just before half time when Brazillian defender Lucio headed into his own net to give Kiev a deserved interval lead.
The second half started with Inter levelling, Walter Samuel heading home from a corner, and this led to a more open end to end game, with both teams going for the win. Inter laid siege to the Kiev goal, but with Andriy Shevchenko (who was excellent) and Artem Milevsky playing on the break, Dynamo aways had a chance. Surprisingly there were no more goals (though Inter did have one disallowed in stoppage time), but on reflection a draw was a fair result.
